ABOUT ME

Welcome to Smith Piano Studio

I'm Kristin Smith, the sole owner and teacher Smith Piano Studio in Pasadena, CA.  I am the wife of an animator and the mother of five children, whom I have the pleasure of homeschooling.

My Experience: I have taught piano lessons for 19 years, mostly in my home, but also as a teacher for Piano Lessons in Your Home in Ohio and for Kurland Salzman in Texas. I studied with concert pianist Nikki Hulen in El Paso, TX.   I have accompanied professionally for school choirs, and I have also been involved for about 20 years with community and church choirs, singing, conducting, and accompanying for them.

My Philosophy:  I gain so much from watching my students "catch hold" of the magnificent world of music - there is nothing like being part of that learning process!  To achieve this end, I believe that lessons should offer a mix of fun, game-based activities, opportunities to create original  music, and a structured plan for nailing down fundamentals.
